video.DE

Videostreaming as an interactive didactic instrument in computer-assisted language learning.

Description

The VIDEO.de project aims at developing a technological-educational tool that allows academic and professional language programs of the Association KU Leuven to use streaming video in an electronic learning environment. This didactic innovation is realized on the basis of a layered and fine-grained annotation structure that enables the teaching staff and students to use online available streaming data for several didactic purposes, i.e. for different programs, courses, program phases and language proficiency levels. The specific didactic implementation of the tool is done in a pilot study for German (applied) linguistics programs across the Association KU Leuven. The implementation focuses specifically on the use of ecological video resources taken from stable archives, the development of a sustainable product (i.e. an open database) that can be extended and managed after the completion of the project, and the didactic expandability to other language programs and trainings in the Association KU Leuven.
