Research seminar Han Hoogeveen

The CODeS research group is pleased to announce a seminar by Han Hoogeveen from Utrecht University entitled: “Personalized nurse rostering through linear programming”.

Content:

We consider the basic rostering problem that originates from scheduling guards at the Universitair Medisch Centrum (UMC) Utrecht. Goal is to find a roster for each person with minimum total cost. We show how we can find near-optimal solutions for this problem through column generation.

Next, we consider the problem of scheduling nurses at the Cardiothoracic Department of UMC Utrecht. This is comparable to the above problem, but more complicated: for each shift there are requirements concerning the minimum number of nurses with specific requirements. We show how to find good quality solutions for this problem for a six-week period using linear programming together with post-processing.

KU Leuven – Technologiecampus, Gebr. De Smetstraat 1, 9000 Gent Blok G, meeting room 2nd floor
