EFFECTIVENESS OF PERSONALISED LEARNING IN FLEMISH PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS

DOCTORAL RESEARCH PROJECT

Rani Van Schoors

The central theme of this doctoral project is research into personalised learning for Flemish primary and secondary education. This doctoral project is part of the i-Learn project, and is financed by the Flemish Ministry. The aim of this project is to make specific technology for personalised learning available to our primary and secondary schools through an open portal, so that they can offer their pupils personalised learning material. In this way, they can respond more adequately to the individuality of each pupil: further challenge stronger pupils and support vulnerable pupils in a more targeted way.

This PhD project focuses on research into the use of personalized learning environments, the instructional design of these learning environments, as well as their effectiveness. The PhD project starts from theoretical and empirically validated principles on instructional design of personalised learning environments in order to map out the concrete needs and the existing use of these learning environments in Flemish education. In addition, through targeted use cases in primary and secondary education, the effectiveness of personalised learning environments for specific learning content is measured, in terms of cognitive learning outcomes, non-cognitive learning outcomes and efficiency.
