He has a background in psychometrics and educational measurement, focused at assessment and IRT modeling. He has published research on various measurement related issues such as modeling methods for assessment data, and automated test assembly. Currently, his research also concentrates around learning analytics. More specifically, he interested in flexibly modeling learning moment-by-moment and developing and evaluating adaptivity algorithms. His research focus is mainly – but not exclusively – methodological. He aims to develop innovative methods that can advance educational research as well as educational technology, by bridging the gap between statistical modeling and machine learning.
